Latin script 28 languages
Full accented-character sets, not just plain A to Z, verified for each language's own diacritics.
Cyrillic script 6 languages
Standard Slavic Cyrillic is fully covered. Central Asian variants with extra letters, like Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and Tajik, aren't covered yet. See the unsupported list below.
Greek script 1 language
Modern Greek, including accented (tonos) vowel forms.
Arabic script 6 languages
Full contextual letter shaping and correct right-to-left rendering, including lines that mix Arabic and Latin text in the same sentence.
Japanese 1 language
Covers the 2,136 official Joyo Kanji, full Hiragana, full Katakana, and Japanese punctuation. Kanji outside that set, mostly proper nouns and specialized or classical text, gets an on-screen warning instead of being dropped silently. Chinese and Korean aren't supported yet.
Not currently supported
Editing existing text in these languages may still work depending on the file, but typing new text isn't supported yet. The editor flags unsupported characters with an on-screen warning instead of dropping them silently.
Scanned PDFs use a different language list
Everything above covers typing or editing text in the PDF editor. Reading text out of a scanned document, OCR, is a separate step with its own language list.
The in-editor "Make text editable" shortcut currently reads English only. For other languages, use the dedicated PDF OCR tool instead, which lets you choose the document's language before scanning:

OCR only affects whether existing scanned text becomes selectable. It doesn't change which languages you can type new text in afterward. That's still governed by the five scripts above.
