What is a JFIF file?
- JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format. A .jfif file is a JPEG image, just with a less common extension.
- Windows and some browsers save web images as .jfif, and many websites, apps and printers then refuse them.
- Converting re-saves the picture as a standard .jpg that works everywhere.
How to convert many JFIF files to JPG at once
- Select all the .jfif files in the converter (Ctrl+A in the file picker), or drag the whole selection in.
- Choose quality and size once. The settings apply to every image.

Which quality should I choose?
- 92% (the default) looks identical to the original for almost every photo.
- 75–85% makes files much smaller and is ideal for email and upload forms with a size limit.
- Each file shows its size before and after, so you can try again with a different setting.
How to make the JPG smaller in pixels
- Set Image size to Fit within a maximum width and height, for example 1920 × 1920.
- Or choose Scale by a percentage, such as 50%.
- Only larger images are shrunk, and the shape of the picture is always kept. For more control, use Resize Image.
How to stop Windows saving images as .jfif
- Windows picks the .jfif extension because of a registry setting for the JPEG file type.
- Press Win+R, type regedit and open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg.
- Change the Extension value from .jfif to .jpg, then restart your browser. Back up the registry first, or simply keep using this converter.

What is the difference between JFIF and JPG?
Almost none. Both hold JPEG image data; JFIF is a variant of the same format with a different extension. Many sites and apps only accept the .jpg extension, which is why converting helps.
Will I lose quality?
At the default 92% quality the result looks the same as the original. Choose 100% for the highest quality, or lower it for smaller files.
Is JFIF to JPEG the same as JFIF to JPG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format. Choose .jpeg under File extension if a site asks for that spelling.
